Quoting Trends: Mopar

In the past, we’ve heard from agents that one of the things they struggle with is knowing what makes and models work best for a specialty policy through Hagerty. The Cars You Should Know list isn’t just a compilation of the cars we think are cool, it’s the cars we see come across our book of business most often (that also happen to be very cool, of course).

Approximately 6% of all Hagerty’s policy quotes in 2024 were for a Dodge or Plymouth. And for the five models featured here, 65% of those quotes in 2024 were from Gen X and younger enthusiasts (people born after 1964), which is up from a 53% share in 2019.

Read on to find out more about this month’s Mopar models.

Dodge Challenger | The Challenger is the most popular of the Dodge and Plymouth models based on quotes in 2024, although it’s worth noting that 87% were for the 2008-23 Challenger. The Dodge Challenger came in at number 9 for the entire Hagerty model list, just behind Trans Am (Pontiac Firebird). But unlike the Firebird, which has only gone up by 11% in quote volume since 2019, the Dodge Challenger has grown a staggering 135% in quote volume since 2019. And like most Mopars on our books, it’s a relatively younger model with 61% of the quotes coming Gen X-ers.

Plymouth Barracuda | The Cuda is on a slight decline since 2019 when it comes to people quoting it with Hagerty. The most popular generation is the 1970-74 car, which accounted for 57% of all quotes for the model in 2024. Hagerty insures almost as many 1970-74 Cudas as it does the contemporary Dodge Challenger. Nearly half of the quotes for Cudas came from Gen X-ers, up slightly from 2019.

Plymouth Road Runner | The Road Runner is on the rise—up 25% in terms of quote count from 2019. And about half of those quoting were born after 1965, so when you’re looking at your own book of business, keep an eye on all ages. The Road Runner apparently appeals to all. The most popular generation Road Runner is the 1968-70 car accounting for over three-quarters of all quotes in 2024.

Dodge Charger | Similar to the Dodge Challenger, the Charger has grown in popularity by more than 100% since 2019. When it comes to model years, looking for the older models is probably prudent: Many of the 2008-23 Chargers are daily use vehicles and therefore unsuitable for a Hagerty policy. But, it’s worth noting, nearly 74% of quotes were from Gen X and younger in 2024, which is up from a 56% share in 2019.

Dodge Viper | The most popular version of the Viper based on quote volume in 2024 is the 1996-2002 GTS based car, which received over one-third of all Viper quotes. The Viper ranks 30th of all models based on policy quotes in 2024, and the number of quotes is up 16% since 2019. Hagerty insures approximately 4,000 Vipers, nearly 60% of which are the 1992-2002 versions.

As we’ve known for years now, the ownership of classic and collector cars is starting to shift, gaining more popularity in the younger generations. Keeping a close eye on who’s quoting what can help you understand who and what to look for in your own book of business.
