Quoting Trends: Acura & Honda

In the past, we’ve heard from agents that one of the things they struggle with is knowing what makes and models work best for a specialty policy through Hagerty. The Cars You Should Know list isn’t just a compilation of the cars we think are cool, it’s the cars we see come across our book of business most often (that also happen to be very cool, of course).

Nearly 3% of all Hagerty’s policy quotes in 2024 were for a Honda or Acura, which is a greater share than for Toyota or Mazda. For the five models featured here, 83% of those quotes were from Gen X and younger enthusiasts (people born after 1964). The generational share does vary for the vehicles featured here from 59% Gen X for the S2000 and 74% Gen X for the NSX, to the 92%-94% range for the Integra, Civic, and CRX.

Acura Integra Type-R | Quote volume for Integras has more than doubled over the past five years. The 1990-93 Integra is the most popular generation based on policy quotes, with a 52% share of quoting activity. The 1994-2001 Integra is the second-most popular with a 42% share, almost all of which are for the Integra Type-R.

Honda Civic Si | The Civic is the most popular vehicle of the Honda highlighted models we’re sharing this month. It comes in at number 19 for Hagerty’s 2024 most-quoted list, with the most popular generation being the 1996-2000 car (31% share). The second most popular is the 1992-95 Civic with an 18% share. The average quote value is $10,800, busting the myth that all collector cars are prohibitively pricey. The Si accounts for about one-quarter of all Civic policy quotes.

Honda S2000 | We can’t talk about the Honda S2000 without mentioning its contemporary rival—the BMW Z3 (reported on in September). The S2000 ranked 25th in quote volume in 2024, just one spot ahead of the BMW Z3. The average quote value was $30,200 in 2024, which is almost double the average quote value of $15,800 for the Z3. It’s worth noting that 59% of those quotes were from Gen X and younger owners, making this model appealing to all ages of enthusiasts.

Acura NSX | The NSX ranks 42nd based on quote volume in 2024 with over 1,100 quotes. The 1991-96 NSX NA1, which featured a 3.0-liter V-6 engine with a 5-speed manual (or an automatic), is the most popular with a 52% share of quotes in 2024 and the 1997-2005 NA2 and the 2017-22 NC1 have 22% and 26% shares, respectively. Wondering what this means for you? If you see an Acura NSX, regardless of production year, it likely deserves specialty protection through Hagerty.
