Quoting Trends: Jeep

In the past, we’ve heard from agents that one of the things they struggle with is knowing what makes and models work best for a specialty policy through Hagerty.

Approximately 5% of all Hagerty’s policy quotes in 2024 were for Jeep and of the models listed here, 72% of them were quoted by Gen X and younger enthusiasts (people born after 1964). That’s ahead of the 64% share of all enthusiast vehicles—it’s safe to say that Jeep is a relatively “young” brand.

Let’s dig in on the four Jeep models and how they’re quoting as of late.

CJ | The CJ-series of Jeeps is the second most popular in terms of quote volume in 2024. While just behind its successor the Wrangler, CJs still account for over 10,000 quotes. And more than 60% of the quotes came from Gen X and younger enthusiasts. The most popular models we see are 1976-86 Jeep CJ-7 with a 41% share of quotes in 2024 and the 1955-83 Jeep CJ-5, which had a 38% share of quotes in 2024. These particular models are ones to keep and eye out for—though any CJ likely belongs on a specialty policy.

Wrangler | The Wrangler is the most popular Jeep—based on Hagerty quotes—with more than 11,000 quoted in 2024. And of those quotes, 72% were from Gen X and younger enthusiasts, which is up from 69% in 2019. The second-generation Wrangler, the 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler (TJ), had the most quotes with a 50% share, followed by the 1987-96 Jeep Wrangler (YJ) with a 37% share. Quote volume for the Wrangler has more than doubled in the past five years.

Wagoneer | Despite its groundbreaking design, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer remain a niche in the enthusiast vehicle world, ranking 46th in quotes in 2024. However, 74% of those quotes were from Gen X and younger enthusiasts, (up from 63% in 2019) and the overall quote volume for the Wagoneers is up 10% since 2019. Perhaps there’s a Wagoneer awakening taking place. Let’s keep an eye out.

Cherokee | The Cherokee is not as popular as the CJ and Wrangler, but more popular than the Wagoneer. However, partly due to changing underwriting guidelines, the volume of quotes is up over 10 times since 2019! And while all the discussed models appear to be youthful, nearly 77% of Cherokee quotes were from Gen X and younger in 2024, making it it one of the most youthful enthusiast vehicles across the board.
