What qualifies
Small Boats
For boats up to 27’ in size, up to 100mph, and of any age, we accept a variety of hull construction materials including fiberglass, metal, or wood. Hagerty offers a variety of additional coverages for these boats including watersports, boat lift, fishing coverages, and more.
Yachts
Designed for boats over 27’ in size, up to 65mph, and of any age. These boats typically include a head (bathroom), galley (kitchen) and can accommodate overnight stays. Yachts may include cruisers, sailboats, center consoles, or other larger boats made of fiberglass, metal, or wood. A professional SAMS or NAMS Out-of-Water marine survey may be required for yachts over 27’ and older than 10 years of age. Eligibility may be restricted in certain coastal areas.
High Performance
Boats over 27’ in size, between 65-120mph, and of any age are eligible for coverage. These boats are designed for speed, with high horsepower and limited cabin space. High-performance boats can include V-shaped or catamaran hulls, including center consoles. These boats are typically made of fiberglass or carbon fiber. A professional SAMS or NAMS Out-of-Water marine survey may be required for yachts over 27’ and older than 10 years of age. Eligibility may be restricted in certain coastal areas.
Electric Boats
EV Boats are gaining popularity and Hagerty can help protect them. You may see these boats from manufacturers including X-Shore and Arc, among others. These boats are 100% electric and recharge at a variety of different locations, including at the dock or on a lift. Boats that have been converted from a gas motor to an electric motor are not eligible with Hagerty.
Classic Boats
Hagerty proudly helps protect most classic wooden boats of any size. Whether your client owns an original Chris-Craft, Century, Gar Wood or a high-quality reproduction of a classic boat, we have a program for it. For classic boats over 27’, a professional SAMS or NAMS Out-of-Water marine survey may be required. Eligibility may be restricted in certain coastal areas.
Commercial Boats (coming soon!)
Hagerty is introducing coverage for boats that are used commercially. Boats should be smaller than 45’ and used for private charters such as fishing, tours, guides, or cruises. We may also consider boats used for business purposes including weed clean up, dock installations, shoreline repair, or real estate. Lastly, if the boat is used privately but titled to a business, your client would qualify for commercial boat coverage. Give us a call to learn more at 800-762-2628.
